SketchFest NYC Partners With Project Breakout
SketchFest NYC is pleased to announce that they will be partnering with Project Breakout to offer comedians the opportunity to have their sketches featured at the third annual SketchFest NYC.
The national competition will be open to anyone who “thinks funny and can prove it”. The comedy competition itself consists of three rounds over two months and will include voting by an online audience and a panel of expert judges, including Jesse Thorn (The Sound of Young America), and NYC SketchFest Producer Elizabeth Ellis.
About Project Breakout
Project Breakout is the perfect partner for SketchFest NYC as we enter our third year, says producer Elizabeth Ellis. “This furthers our mission to bring the world’s best sketch comedy, to the world’s brightest comedy audience. Plus, I really love judging people.”
Any US resident over the age of 12 can participate. Winners of this launch of the Project Breakout Comedy Competition will land a featured role in the upcoming 2007 NYC comedy festival SketchFest, a three-day, all-expenses paid internship with some of the best and brightest from New York City’s comedy scene, and a trip to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to work with the judges on the webisode.
NYC’s Third Annual SketchFest, New York’s ONLY National Sketch Comedy Festival, is scheduled for June 7-9, 2007. Venues, groups, and more information will be announced in the coming months.
The last two years the Festival has been a huge success, featuring over thirty different sketch comedy groups from across the country, sold out shows, rapturous applause, and an industry presence from ABC, NBC, CBS, MTV, VH1, HBO, CENTRAL COMEDY, NIKELODEON , LAND TV, FUSE, and many more.
The Festival alumni list include: Whitest Kids U Know, who will be showing their new sketch show at Fuse in March – Kurt & Kristen. Who will launch a web series on Turner’s Super Deluxe, and FreeLoveForum. A short-listed sketch comedy pilot for the 2006 New York Television Festival.

Like other SketchFests, SketchFest NYC is dedicated to promoting the art of sketch comedy. Sketch comedy, which differs from improv and stand-up, consists of short, pre-rehearsed written scenes, usually presented by a group of people that can range in size from two to twenty.
