GREENVILLE, North Carolina East Carolina University and MrBeast announce an exclusive partnership to develop a certification program to meet the creative industries' growing demand for a skilled workforce.

The content creation industry, valued at $104 trillion a year by Fast Company, is emerging as the new leader of the global economy. The MrBeast brand alone is the largest on the YouTube platform with five channels, 111 million subscribers on the main channel alone and 20 billion views. The brand also owns MrBeast Burger, Feastables and the non-profit charity Beast Philanthropy. This program is not focused on finding the next YouTube star, but instead trains and certifies employees who work for creative content producing companies.

The YouTuber industry has over 50 million hobbyists and over 2 million professionals, with over a million making a living from YouTube alone. The need for a highly qualified workforce motivates the creation of this program. The microcredit courses are offered entirely online and prepare candidates for entry-level positions in cinematography, editing, analysis and other key skills in the creative industries. The program does not require enrollment as a regular four-year student at ECU and is expected to be operational within six to 12 months.

"ECU has always been active in supporting our key partners in innovative ways and this new student-focused strategy aims to meet the educational needs of the construction industry at a critical stage in the development of this growing industry," ECU said. Chancellor Philip Rogers said. . .

The creative industry is growing rapidly. As the company grows, so does the need for professional staff. It is not easy to find employees with the right combination of perseverance, competence and professional expertise. The risk of hiring someone with a disability in any of these areas reduces work efficiency and ultimately the company's success.

“This program aims to address these issues head on,” Rogers said. "In this program, industry experts work directly with academic experts to connect the latest technology with the university's knowledge generation engine."

ECU is a nationally recognized leader for its innovation, educational leadership and strong ability to deliver online courses. Universities and creative industries will work together to create a program that meets the needs of the workforce and meets rigorous academic standards.

According to ECU President Robin Koger, "The goal of this program is to create a well-educated workforce in creative industries around the world. Our partner, MrBeast, is a leader in this growing industry. The collaboration is innovative because it expertise of ECU educators and industry leaders combine in a flexible and agile strategy to create new ones to support a rapidly changing global economic engine.

Greenville's Jimmy Donaldson, aka MrBeast, was No. 1 on the Forbes Top Creators 2022 list. At the age of 13, Donaldson began directing and releasing videos. It has grown into a Greenville-based creative company with 125 full-time employees and currently approximately 125 contract workers. MrBeast has built his brand on four pillars: Achievement, Philanthropy, Community Service and True Family Comedy.

The idea for the program came about when Donaldson and his teammates talked to Rogers and the ECU team. For large content creators like his company, Donaldson explained that it is difficult to find and retain qualified employees who can join the team and possess the knowledge and skills necessary for their particular style of filming, editing and strategy.

“Honestly, I hope it's as helpful as it is to many writers like us. I can see how completely this changes the industry. I'm excited!” Donaldson said.

For ECU, this partnership continues its tradition of working with local businesses and community members to meet specific needs. Through this public-private partnership, the program will be jointly developed and delivered by academics and industry leaders, including MrBeast experts. This ensures that students learn the most relevant skills and cutting-edge techniques and gain the inside knowledge to ensure they are ready for full-time employment in their home company upon completion of the program.

The program will be part of ECU's strategy for research, economic development and engagement led by dr. Sharon Painter who said, “This innovative program expands what ECU can offer to meet the needs of today's students. This enables the university to propose alternative career paths. Preparation and job opportunities of the ECU This enables students to get to know each other.
