The Lagos State University (LASU) recently organized a three-day Open Educational Resources (OER) staff training to expand its online resource repository.

The training was organized in partnership with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) at the Senate Chamber, Babatunde Raja Fashole Senate Building. A Community Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyomi Olatunji-Bella, was appointed.

Addressing the 30 interns drawn from the university's departments, including academic and non-academic staff, Olatunji-Bella said it has become imperative for the institution to adapt its practices because of the many advantages of using hybrid learning methods, one of which is the ability to . train employees.

Olatunji-Bella added: “The truth is that given the complexity of today's globalized economy and the demands it places on the workforce, PE may be obsolete for many prospective students who want access to a quality education without the constraints of PE ".

He said the university has committed significant resources to digitize its teaching and learning process to realize its vision of being the best in West Africa, adding that OER education will be of great importance in achieving this goal.

He also said that part of the university's investment is the expansion of the REA platform.

“LASU recently launched its OER platform, a repository of learning materials designed to meet the needs of students,” Olatunji-Bello. "These materials are repositories with dedicated support services to help students access the university's website."

Prof. Francis Egbohar, representative of the Commonwealth of Learning, during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor earlier said that LASU is one of the three universities in Nigeria that is a partner in the COL project.

Among other things, the training will help the university develop individual policies in the field of open resources and online education. He was accompanied by Mr. Felix Okechukwu and Mr. Felix Okafor for the three-day COL training.

Prof. Toyin Enikuomehin, who welcomed the three-man team, Director of Information and Communication Technology (DICT), thanked the venture fund for the speedy approval of the training and noted that it showed exceptional passion for the development of OER in the university. .
