Stonewalling , directed by Huang Ji and Otsuka Ryuji, was a big winner at the Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF), winning three awards, including best picture at the Firebird Young Filmmaker Awards (China).
Although HKIFF has managed to hold several cinema screenings delayed during the pandemic, the festival was able to welcome foreign guests for the first time this year after Hong Kong lifted its strict Covid quarantine requirements late last year. The festival will end today (April 10) and the awards ceremony will take place on the final night with the final performance of Cheuk Wan-chi's Sign of Life .

Part of a trilogy focusing on the struggles of young women in modern China, Stonewalling also won Best Actress for two female leads, Huang Xiaoxiong and Yao Honggui for mother and daughter, and Fipresque.
The HKIFF Firebird Award jury praised the film for "reminding us of the turmoil, pain and suffering women face today and the inevitable responsibilities they shoulder". The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival last year and was later acquired by KimSteam for a North American release.
Additionally, Hong Heng-fai from Macau won Best Director for Kissing the Land You Walk in the New Chinese Language Film Competition and veteran actor Li Zuejian won Best Actor for Falling in Love Again. Of particular note is actor-director Kai Ko's debut film , Bad Education .
Lila Aviles' Mexican film Totem won best picture in the Giovanni (Mondo) cinema competition, while Argentina's Martin Bencimol won best director for The Castle . Mirko Giannini won best actor in Astrakhan France and best actress for a female lead in the Spanish film 20,000 Species of Bees .
In the Documentary Film Competition, the award for best film "The Firebird" went to Apollonia, Apollonia , in which Danish director Leah Globe explored her relationship with French actress Apollonia Sokol. Polish directors Elvira Nivera and Pior Rosolovsky took home the Jury Prize for The Hamlet Syndrome, a film about a group of young actors trying to stage their play Hamlet in Ukraine.
Swiss director Morgan Freund won the Firebird Award in the short film competition for his graduation project Beer , while the Jury Prize went to Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, a black comedy directed by Singaporean director Alvin Lee.

Today, I went to the beachfront with my kids.
