XYZ Films Hires Former Film Factory Executive To Oversee New Global Film Slate Including Cannes Title ‘In Flames

XYZ Films has hired Manon Barat, former CEO of Spanish distribution company Film Factory, to curate the list of films to be included in the company's recently launched global New Visions initiative.

Barratt will work with Todd Brown, XYZ's head of international acquisitions, to oversee the new roster, which the company describes as "a superbly curated collection of films."

XYZ will open the new Cannes lineup with On Fire , a Pakistani-Canadian horror film directed by Zarar Khan and produced by Shanta Joshi. The image will appear in the Directors' Fortnight sidebar. Check out the first preview of the film below.

Other titles on the New Visions starting list include the Czech sci-fi film Recovery Point , directed by Robert Glosz and produced by Ian Kallist, which will be screened at the Marché du Film as part of the Fantastic 7 program, and Dwayne's Irish All You i Paul Need Is Death was also on the list.

XYZ said today that the New Visions program will "support the next generation of great filmmakers early in their careers" and "enable bright talent to do something smaller, more intimate or more challenging outside of mainstream independent film."

"I've always considered XYZ to be one of the most creative and adventurous boards out there and I'm honored to join the team," said Barratt. "I'm thrilled to be part of this special cadre that will be talented and actively seeking out courageous filmmakers who I believe will be the leaders of their generation."

While at Film Factory, Barat worked on films such as Jair Bustamante's Volcán (Ixcanul) , Temblores and La Llorona , which was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2020. In 2022 he worked on Carlos Vermuth's Manticora and Sebastian Zlatank, winner of Los Reyes del Mundo, Laura Mora.

"What we're saying with the New Visions Slate is that no matter how XYZ continues to grow and change, we will never allow ourselves to lose sight of our roots," Brown said.

“With this new initiative, we are very active in creating a space for the next generation of talent to shine, a space for emerging talent and established voices looking to challenge and reinvent themselves. We couldn't be more excited about the future and we're thrilled to have Manon join us on this journey.
