‘Final Destination’ Creator Signs On For Local Film Company Feature

December 27 — Blood Moon Pictures, a local independent film company headed by directors PJ Starks and Eric Huskisson, will team up with another big name on the upcoming film 'Eve of New Fears'.

Jeffrey Reddick, creator of the horror franchise "Final Destination" and director of the 2020 mystery thriller "Don't Look Back," has signed a deal to produce and star in the film, which will begin production in January.

Over the years, Starks has managed to develop a friendship with Reddick, with the latter also starring in the company's 2020 film 13 Slices Till X-mas.

Reddick, a Kentucky native, joined the project when Reddick called Starks on the phone "just to talk," Starks said.

“I'll call him once in a while, or he'll call me and give me a hug…,” she said, “and we took some steps to make this film.

"…as we were talking, I started talking to him about it and asked him what he was working on…"

The film already contains several famous names.

Felisa Rose as Angela Baker in the 1983 cult horror film 'Sleepway Camp', Hannah Fierman as Lily in the 2012 horror anthology 'V/H/S' and Dave Sheridan in the 2016 horror film 'SiREN' as Agent Duffy became famous in the 2000 horror spoof Scary Movie, the latter acting as a producer on the film.

Former Evanescence drummer Rocky Gray is also on board to record the project.

Reddick was thrilled to learn of the effort and asked Stark to read a completed script.

"I sent him the script and a few weeks later he finally got back to me and said, 'I really like the script. It's really funny. Well written. I love it. The characters.'" says Starks. 'I want to be involved in this film… As a producer and maybe have a (small) role in the film…'

"I've been a friend and fan of PJ Starks for over a decade. There are so many talented filmmakers in Kentucky and I love supporting them," said Reddick. "When I saw what PJ, Eric Huskisson and their amazing team had achieved with a big budget and 13 X month cuts during Covid-19, it just popped into my mind. I read the script and immediately knew I was part of of production . I want to take."

Starks wrote a small role for Reddick in the film.

Huskisson, who will direct the film, is "excited" to be working with the talent that will be part of the production.

“Having Dave, Felisa and Hannah on board – (it's) just surreal and I'm really excited to work with these guys…” she said, “…but then there's Jeffrey, who I already know from Kentucky . . . I think Kari is very beautiful.

"I'm very excited to work with all of them."

Reddick said the film, with him and other names on board, shows the respect Starks and Huskisson have earned with their previous films.

"I think it speaks to the quality of the people involved, the people involved in Kentucky, the talent that they're attracting, especially for an independent film," he said. "When you're working on an independent film, it's really about… loving the project; it's not necessarily about the money. It's about loving the project and believing in it and wanting to see it happen."

Reddick will be on hand for the first weekend of shooting in January, along with Rose, Sheridan and local cast and crew members. They'll kick off production with an official New Fears Eve VIP party at the Holiday Inn Owensboro Riverfront on Friday, January 27 from 8pm to midnight.

The 21+ event will include trivia, music and prizes, as well as opportunities to talk to the cast and production crew and support the project.

"They're not stuck behind a desk, they blend in with the crowd," Starks said.

There will be an ATM and snacks.

Starks said the event will feature people who have contributed to the film's Indiegogo campaign, as well as serve as another way to "expose it to Owensboro audiences."

The campaign goal was to raise $40,000. As of December 23, the project has raised more than $46,000.

But Starks said the goal is "about half of our budget," with local and regional sponsors hoping to fill the rest of the budget.

Two entrants are Music Studios and The Asylum Tattoo and Art Gallery.

“We have a few so far,” Starks says. "…let's keep looking for more. We have work to do…"

The final budget goal is about $63,000, Starks said, "We're pretty confident we'll hit it."

"…we're going to strike," he said. “…we are fundraising and it is going quite well, but we still have a long way to go to get the funds we need.”

Reddick stated that people don't realize the difficulty of making a film and that the most exciting part of the process is getting started because "it's such an accomplishment".

"I'm excited to come to set and see it happen," she said. "I and many other filmmakers have seen many films fall apart and not come to fruition. The chances of a film being made are so astronomical that it's exciting to actually see it made."
